Reaching Gen Z

Media Leaders and Communicators Discussion

Tuesday, May 21, 2024 / 5:30-8:00 PM ET

Edelman New York

250 Hudson St., 5th Floor, New York, NY

About the Event

While it may feel like Gen Zers are the new kids in town, they will account for 30% of the American workforce by 2030. Many top-tier media brands are steps ahead on tailoring their trusted journalism to reach and influence this generation. Meltwater, Edelman and Under Armour are convening leaders across journalism and communications to discuss the impact of Gen Z on media.

Join us for a panel with TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Who What Wear and Yahoo Finance on what storytelling elements work best for a younger audience including clearer, action-oriented pieces, editing video clips for social sharing and leading with the facts to ensure credibility.

The panelists will discuss what makes Gen Z unique. As a generation who grew up in a world dominated by smartphones and social media, does Gen Z really gain all their news from TikTok and YouTube? How do news outlets behind the paywall adapt their content to appeal to Gen Z so they value paying for access to journalism on par (or above) their Netflix subscription? As the cost of living and sustainability are major concerns for this generation, what reporting related to these topic areas has gone viral?

Older members of Gen Z finished their education and entered the workforce during the pandemic, when many companies went remote for months or longer. How is Gen Z shaping the cultural conversation around the future of work?

It’s clear that brands require a unique content approach to reach Gen Z. How can communications leaders tailor their brand’s storytelling approach to help news outlets with content that will reach Gen Z?
